Mood Board
The genre I have chosen for my magazine is alternative indie
rock. I chose this genre, as it’s the type of music I listen to and I can
therefor take a note of what I’d like to see in the magazine. When creating
this mood board I took into consideration other existing magazines of a similar
style to what I am hoping to achieve, by doing this I hoped to find inspiration
and ideas for my own magazine layout and structure. The magazine I focused
mainly on were KERRANG and NME as they are some of the more popular and most in
demand magazines for this genre. When researching the genre in more depth I
also began to realise that to create a suitable magazine for my target audience
I needed to display articles and adverts that cater to them. Such things as
fashion items like converse and vans, or music events like Leeds Fest and other
gig dates. When looking at my mood board, the bands being featured all have one
very distinctive style for their genre. Not only are they all wearing
particularly dark clothes, they have also got quite serious/ angry expressions
on their faces. This helps the reader to
understand the type of music being portrayed in the feature and create an
impression of the bands straight away. Very rarely are the bands featured have
any kind of bright colours to them, this allows the magazine to be expressive
with their choices for background and masthead/cover line colours. As I looked
closer into the expressions of the artist, you are able to notice that the
majority of them are looking directly at the reader in an attempt to not only
draw them to look closer at the magazine but also to display the style of the
band and stand out from other magazines. As I create my magazine I will need to
take all of these aspects and conventions used for a typical indie/rock
magazine, to create my own realistic and professional looking magazine.
